I just read the Flashing BIOS sticky and have a question...

Ok, my situation wasn't exactly explained as that was more for people with a corrupted or non-working BIOS. It said to remove the BIOS chip and replace with a new one in one of the steps...

My intention is to override the factory Gateway BIOS, which has OC'ing ability disabled. I've seen a lot of people kill their boards doing this, but I'm willing to risk it.
My BIOS chip is working, so there's no need to replace it --- I thought that what I'm supposed to do is remove the BIOS chip, boot from the floppy, run the "flash" software", shut down comp, re-insert BIOS chip, remove floppy, reboot....
Does this sound like I'm on the right track?
the toughest part will be locating the correct BIOS version as the Gateway splash screen comes on when the comp boots, which hides it.
Any help?

you do not remove your bios chip when you change to an updated bios.

1. Download appropriate bios file/installer...
2. Read documents on installer operation
3. Most likely, you'll put both onto a floppy
4. Reboot and enter your bios screen
5. Load default settings of your bios
6. Reboot to floppy, of which has your new bios/installer
7. Make backup of current bios
8. Install new bios

That's a rough outline of the path you'll take.
