i read this earlier this month and didnt think much of them claiming a possible 40% increase. after re-reading the last half of it im excited! im really looking forward to seeing what amd can come up with late this year. if they can actually come through with a 40% increase across the board that will definitely put the screws to intel. will we finally see amd surpass intel in the ghz war?

Somehow I doubt we will see retail 5GHz chip anytime in next 2-3 years. It may overclock till 5GHz but frequency limit is affected by many factors and I just doubt if they make mass production of so high clocked chips. Intel had 5GHz Xeons long time ago and somehow they stuck below 4.5GHz in mass production for next couple of years. If it was so easy then they would make it but since there are other issues on the way then all are adding cores and push software developers to optimize everything for multithreading.
For sure AMD has to change current architecture or improve it as it was designed for low power chips and we see how bad it's scalling above even ~3.5GHz.
It can be interesting to see what AMD will bring in next years.

Like Gary Patton said the node will be capable but alot depends on design
