Got MSI 645ultra , 256mb DDR pc2100, p4 2.0A, MAXTOR 40G 7200RPM, Gforce MX 400 32mb.

This board was working fine so far , i just changed the case(with the same type) and hardisk (from quantum to maxtor)

The problem is hardisk wont work smoothly? like if you are copying some data from one partition to another it hangs in between for a second or two, then starts copying and then hangs again then again starts copying ?

so time it works fine! .. IN win98se & winME the problem is more frequenty observed while in winXP less frequent?

Get latest drivers for mobo and ide controller or whatever you use.
Allways use the latest of everything that can be upgraded in software, especially if you have problems or think you have.
I allways do that because I'm an update addict but itis never wrong to update if you know what you are doing.

run pci bus at stock. do u have it overclocked at all?
that sounds like the hard disk cant tolerate it as well as the older.

thanks rotary .. i only have one drive and dont think it has any thing to do with the Always on! ..

Crystal DMA do you mean UDMA100 in the bios ? that is enabled?

I guess you guy'z got no clue either lol..

Any here is the update on that MAXTOR drive
i checked it with the other PC it had the same problem there, tried the MAXDIAG utility on it to fix the drive it hangs at one stage

so i send the Drive back for RMA (it faulty) :)

I dont like maxtor drives
