i know that the cpu was a bad design but i want to get one.

I would like more info on that PSU. 100 bucks for a 1050 watt seems really low.

As for the RAM, if you want 8 gigs, get 2 4 gig sticks as that Mobo is dual channel.

Cooler Power Supply 1050W Modular (ATX)
and it is 4x8 for $300 which is 32gb ram, over kill i know but I am going to run a server and gaming on two partitions.

Never heard of that brand of PSU. My advice is to stay with name brands like Antec, Corsair and Seasonic.

That power supply scares me. Going with an unknown brand you've a high chance of the PSU dying and it taking the rest of your system with it.

Look at PSU's from Cosrair, Seasonic, Silverstone, high end Superflower units, Kingwin Lazer Gold or Platinum series, XFX or the Antec's series with the exception of their Basiq line.

Would change that ssd the petrol ssd's seen to have tons of problems and i would also go with an Intel set up or if you really want to go with amd wait for pile driver ( i don't know when that is coming out but hope fully it will be better then the current bulldozer but you cant go wrong with intel just my opinion( i am not a fan boy just giving you your best options)

^^^I'd change to a Corsair, Samsung or Intel SSD myself.

Piledriver is just around the corner. The Notebook APU's ("Trinity") have just been released. While it looks to be an improvement its hard to tell how much of an improvement.

Basically if you're buying right now then an Intel build is the better choice, if down the track then I just don't know. We don't know how the desktop "piledriver" parts will perform yet.

i am going to stay with the fx 8150 because it is good for overclocking and if i really wanted to i could get it to about5.8GHz stable. and the ssd which should i choose in the same price area?

Which series? Not all Cooler Master PSU's are good units. I imagine you'd be ok with their 1KW units though you may want to check with Bobnova or Oklahomawolf on that one.

Corsair, Samsung and Intel SSD's will all cost more. Thing is, they're far less likely to fail and performance will be better. For the most part you get what you pay for unfortunately.

Not really valid from that point of view. An Intel Core i5 2500K will give a better overclock with higher performance than overclocking an FX-81xx will.

I would save money on the ram by getting the gskill F3 4x8 gig kit i think it should run around 220.

Also would switch the SSD in favor of the OCZ vertex 4.

5 2500K vs AMD fx 8150

http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=189505

WINNERS:

First Place - intel i7 2600k @ 4.8 Ghz - 107.5 % Performance

Second Place - AMD FX 8150 @ 4.8 Ghz - 100.0% Performance

Third Place - intel i5 2500k@ 4.8 Ghz - 81.4% Performance

Fourth Place -AMD 1100t @ 4.2 Ghz - 73.2% Performance

Intels monstrous leap over AMD in CPU Integer Math seems to be the game changer, with 63.4% gain on the FX 8150. But FX manages to beat its older phenom II brother by a whopping 74%. The OC'd AMD FX 8150 beats its intel i7 2600k rival in five out of eight tests, however narrowly loses in the final score. In FPU Score its a dead tie between the 2600k and FX, with the 1100t and i5 2500k lagging behind.

Comparing FX to the i5 2500k in this benchmark, AMD wins in seven out of the possible eight tests, and only loses in the CPU integer math test.

We can really see Bulldozer shine in this benchmark when compared to the older 1100t, and it manages to be right at intels door with performance significantly higher than its intel counterpart, the i5 2500k.

That *cough cough* benchmark test that you linked is a mess. Clocks are all over the place. Putting the 8150 clocked to 4.8 against the 2500 at stock in some of the tests?

Look at this one. (from the linked article) 2500 at 4.0 gigs 8150 at 4.8??

How is this even relevant? I'm not saying don't go with the AMD, but you should be careful what information you use in your decision making.

*edit I read that whole thread. The OP (from the linked thread, not corey) is taking results from all around the web and then inserting his data into the graphs:rofl: Photoshop for the fail.
