Trying to build a computer with some of the latest technology. The computer I use now is my Asus g60 laptop which is dual core 2.13 with 4gb ram and Nvidia 280. So now I am looking to build a desktop and spend no more then 1k on the tower. Here is what I came up with so far. I plan to be playing some SC2, BF3, D3. Nothing to serious. Suggestions or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you all!

If you want AsRock go with this: ASRock Z68 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX

It will encode/transcode circles around everything using cyberlink and the SRT is a nice addition. It can also cut back on heat and power usage.

I picked that brand because it had a good rating. Would you recommend another brand?

Ok. I will use the board you suggested. Any other input about this build? Thanks!

Oh one more thing. Gigabyte boards support the upcoming IB cpu and PCIe 3

^?

Nope. There may be a model here or there that has PCIE gen 3 implementation from Gigabyte but certainly not across the board on all their models. Any 1155 motherboard will support SB-E hex core once it is released. If anything a bios update would be required.

There is a version of the ASrock 4 that has PCIE gen 3 implementation that I know of.

Ivybridge comes after SB-E and will be LGA2011.There may be 1155 models. This is all Q1/2 2012. SB-E is Q4 2011.

And: I believe SB E will have 2011 pins and quad channel memory.

EDIT: Are not the SB-E 32nm on the 2011 pin socket to replace the 1366 as well.

Sandy Bridge Extreme is LGA 2011 which will be 22nm and have quad channel memory. It will be X79. Ivy bridge is 22nm CPU's for LGA 1155 and will also include a chipset update called Z77.

Your link says IB 22nm and nothing about the SB-E process. Nowhere in your link did I see the information you have posted.

Below is the entire Blurb:

Intel Desktop Board Lineup for 2011-12 Disclosed

Here are some of the first motherboards by Intel's Desktop Board brand of consumer motherboards. Towards the end of 2011, Intel will release its Sandy Bridge-E high-end desktop platform. Like with the launch of any new chipset or desktop platform, Intel will have its Desktop Board products in place, that follow the chipset and branding specifications to the letter. With Sandy Bridge-E, Intel will launch two Extreme Series motherboards, the DX79SI and the DX79TO. In the second half of 2011, Intel will also launch a variety of Intel Atom boards, including one codenamed "Marshaltown".

Then in the first half of 2012, Intel will launch its next-generation 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" desktop processors in the LGA1155 package (compatible with Sandy Bridge). To back its launch, Intel will release a new chipset called Z77 Express. There will be no discrete graphics chipsets. H77 is the client desktop chipset that lacks overclocking features. Z77 has them, and support for Smart Response technology. Q77 adds a few enterprise management features. Intel's Z77 based motherboards include two Extreme series models, and two top-end Media Series models.

Everything I have read points to SB-E being 32nm process.

Wild stuff. I guess it's that easy when the CPU runs the PCIE lanes. Sorry dude.

Hell it happens. Honestly a lot of this stuff is new to me and I need to keep up with it. Though it is not a daily thing I do some motherboard reviewing so I must at least try to keep up with things.

Intel is a little tight and every one of those links could end up being wrong about one thing or another in the end. We could get an SB-E light but I doubt it because it really would offer no major advantages to the everyday user.

Either way, those motherboards aren't really in the budget range of the OP.

You need 8GB or 16GB of RAM. Also, if you want a GTX460, you can get one for $110 from EVGA B-Stock.

A 650TX will run dual GTX460s no problem. If you're playing more then RS, you might want new-gen GPUs for future proofing, but otherwise it's fine. If your motherboard can't go dual-GPU, then drop to a 600CX.

Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB is the same price, pretty much same speed, double the capacity.

What are the new GPU's? And I will look into the 1tb hd. Thanks

You have a Radeon 4xxx card, which is two generations old, along with the GTX 2xx series.

After that was the GTX 4xx series and the Radeon HD 5xxx series.

New generation cards are the GTX 5xx series and the Radeon HD 6xxx series.

Really?

GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard is the exact same price. Did you look or assume?

Recommending 16GB for gaming is also a waste of money. Only with heavy encoding and multitasking while doing DC work will you ever need more than 8. I had 16 in my encoding box and downgraded to 12 as a matter of fact.

If you had even looked at his list you would have seen the MB he chose has 3 X16 slots. "3 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (PCIE2/PCIE4: single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode; PCIE5: x4 mode)"

Ilcrba, I hope u dont get headache...:p

i would recommend u to use z68 series mobo (gigabyte if u dont mind), 8 GB ram and gtx500 series card...
