Hi all,
I apologize in advance. I am new to this...I recently built my first build and I am running the stability tests suggested in a step-by-step new builder's guide on Tom's Hardware forums (Memtest and Prime95 for 24 hours). I ran memtest85+ ( 10 passes, no errors). However, when I run Prime95 it only takes a minute or two for all core temps to reach mid 70's at which point I stopped the test (Prime95 doesn't report any errors, rather I stop the test because I have read that letting temps get higher than this can damage the CPU). According to Real Temps, all cores idle at 28-31C. I have have made no changes to bios. I am running everything at stock settings (no overclocking). While Newegg lists my memory as DDR3-1600 7-9-7-24, my bios seems to recognize it at lower than 1600 and 9-9-9-24. All the drivers/BIOS are stock drivers that came with hardware (except for GPU for which I downloaded the latest drivers for). I am currently using the stock Intel cooler, with pre-applied thermal paste.

Mobo: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Can anyone tell me what normal idling core temps are for my build? What should core temps be hitting when under full load using Prime 95?
And does anyone have any ideas on what I can do about the overheating issue. Do I need to RMA my CPU?
