Is it OK to use 1 x 8GB RAM stick in a Dual Channel (4 slots) ?

I'm not sure exactly how new controllers are managing data right now. I can only check performance on Z97 or A88X when I find 3 or more similar sticks. Recently I had to sell some RAM so it will be hard with single sided modules for comparison.

You can check via performance, however, I believe you would have to fill the dual channel capacity and run into the single stick before you see any performance losses.

If you have ram drive software with enough capacity to fill your ram you could test it pretty easily.
