Is there freeware Tweak Windows 8 program to remove Right Click > New menu items

TweakUI 64-Bit does not work on Windows 8.

Remove the ShellNew key of the filetype key found on HKCR you want to remove from the New... menu.

For example, to remove New Text Document, remove the following key:
Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew

Yes, of course thank you.

I was looking for software to simply UNCHECK programs which insert themselves there without permission, like TweakUI used to do. I will find it one day than post back here and in the mean time if anyone else knows of one, please let me know.

Yes, that is the one I was counting on - coming up on the last stage on my Windows 8 install now and found out the hard way it does not have that feature.

So that is the only thing I am missing now in Windows 8 64-Bit, redduc900. Removal of right click intruders w/o going into registry to do it manually.

I would also prefer to find a better startup interceptor. I am talking about trying to find a freeware 64-Bit version of this: http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml

A true life-saver program since Windows 95 - and probably the ultimate reason I never switched to 64-bit Vista or 64-Bit Windows 7. It intercepts anything trying to register itself to run at startup - giving me the option to allow it or not - it kept all my 32-Bit computers running faster than they would have otherwise for the last 15 years.

I found this freeware to intercept startup insertion attempts but it is buggy:
http://tcpmonitor.altervista.org/download/?did=15 [If downloading the installation files, be sure to DECLINE ALL Download End User License Agreements to avoid installation of additional unnecessary software.]
[You will hear an annoying ta-da sound when starting the program. Immediately click on OK then right click on the program icon in Task Bar [lower right] > Options:
UNCHECK: Alarm when detect registry change. Delete unnecessary VirusTotalUpload.exe file from program directory.]

I got word of this program, which appeared to be free:
http://www.winpatrol.com/

However, the free version alerts you with a 3 minute delay, which can only be reduced down to a 1 minute delay. Real-time alert is only available in the PLUS version. So thirty bucks just to intercept startup entries if you have no need for other features.

On the wish list is also something I never heard of exists - it would be really cool if there was a program to also intercept Right click > New intruders in real-time. I need to keep the right click menu clean because I use it for a couple of specific things, and if they are the only ones in there - it makes superfast computing faster for those of us that are able to do things things in 0.1 seconds instead of 0.5 seconds. :)

Yes, I keep that for in-depth look but it is overkill for a quick look. There is this freeware that displays a simpler quick look window: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_run_in_startup.html

WinPatrol http://www.winpatrol.com/ appears to also have a nice overview, that part is free. [What is with the annoying sounds these apps have, WinPatrol has a realistic sounding dog barking, can't get to Options fast enough to turn that extremely annoying sound off - it scares everybody in the house.]

But on this topic, if you think about it, there is nothing more useful than an auto-interceptor. Everything from Adobe Reader to other freeware and pay-for programs, everything inserts itself to

A. Remind you to go ahead and register so that you can stay informed about their other products.
B. Auto-updates. Instead of updating when you have computer resources and time to do it, they start downloading auto-updates as soon as you turn your machine on - crippling it for immediate use.
C. Completely needless tasks are running at startup.

The only solution is to intercept them *before* they even get a chance to insert themselves. Not to mention malware inserting itself to run at startup.

You know I've always said, if you have 4GB of RAM, why even bother with 64-Bit, there is no advantage and you loose old app and hardware support. This 16-Bit app http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml runs like a champ on Windows 95 as well as Windows 8 32-Bit.

But I've held off as long as I could , it's time to go 64-Bit and I just might go with WinPatrol PLUS version if nothing else comes up.

Heh. I tested WinPatrol as intercepting *both* System Startup and Right Click Menu intruders!

It asks for your permission to allow both.

That means I have to cleanup the Right Click menu once and then WinPatrol won't allow anything in there after that.
