right now i have a vista/ubuntu dual boot, and due to some program incompatability id like to add or replace vista with xp, is there anyway i can do this without having to reinstall ubuntu?,can i just reinstall grub or something?

XP will overwrite the MBR, you will need to install grub and set up the boot partitions again.

Set up a GRUB boot disk or use SuperGRUB to redo the MBR.

It looks like the CDs are only copies of our current GRUB.

1. make one if you want (so you can easily get to ubuntu is you want)
2. install XP over Vista
3. Make a XP boot disk.
4. boot supergrub
5. - be careful, it SHOULD setect your ubuntu and WinXP boot files, but it may not; If is messes up your MBR, then one of the two boot disks should et you an OS (unless you deleted the Ubuntu when you installed XP)

I would just boot with a livecd like knoppix, chroot to ubuntu, and run grub. Then reboot and you're good to go.

+1 for using a liveCD thats what I do. Its pretty basic in terms of difficulty to achieve
