I say make the retailers and parents have some accountability. I'm all for selling porn, booze, smokes, drugs and AO video games at every retail store. If the cashier/retailer doesn't ask for ID and sells it to a kid, then let them be held accountable. If mom and dad buy it for the kid, then that is their choice. The government has their hands in EVERYTHNING these days, including and mainly our wallets. We're not the governments 5 year olds. We can make our own decisions and reap the consequences if those decisions aren't so wise. Canada's not so bad, it's not Amsterdam, but there's more freedom than the US (the taxes are OUTRAGEOUS though).

I'm very much for personal accountability, good parenting, and government keeping their nose out of things. :)

The only thing to remember with an AO rating not selling well in the U.S. is that it's not because of the government. It's private business trying to make a good business decision and chosing not to carry the games. I partly applaud such businesses on the courage to do that despite in the end probably not selling as much. Without a doubt, Wal-Mart sells a ton less music CD's because of their policies on lyrics. I know I don't ever buy music from Wal-Mart because I want what the artists intended...but, I'm glad they do it for the 12 year old kid shopping around Wal-Mart with their mom.

I don't think Wal-Mart should carry AO games for the same reason...but, specialty gaming stores like Game Stop!!?? There must some way that a story that PRIMARILY SELLS GAMES can figure out how to carry anything at all worth carrying and sufficiently inform their customers before purchase of what they are purchasing in order to protect kids in a responsible way. An AO locked glass case? An 18+ back room with a black curtain and dim lighting? :D Giant Adult stickers on packages that threaten nudity, simulated sex, grotesque violance, and/or communist propaganda? Something.
