Hi in about a month i will have a 995 dollar budget to build me a new gaming rig with plans to oc it. It has been a long time since ive done a build im doing this now because ive been without a running desktop for a year mine wont post everything but the video cards been checked and rechecked i can hear the drives spin up so i think its my video card regardless its a heavyly outdated rig dating back almost a decade in its current config it runs a am2 slot ddr 2 ram its time for the trash heap. My goals are to run around 4.0-4.1 ghz oced to have a current system running games like skyrim and fallout 4 and minor thing to mess with led lighting altho I could drop it and wouldn't really ever notice hardly anyone will ever see this rig. My budget is currently 995.00 with another 300 coming sometime in the next few months and another 1400 next year unfortunately im falling on hard times just last year i was homeless living in a tent still jobless and disabled here now but recently moved into my first apartment on my own. Any advice will be appreciated alto of the current tech.

I would make sure those ram sticks have Samsung B dies as they work very well on the ryzen platform .
Other than that what you know the 660ti will be your biggest draw back with this system . Im guessing this will be upgraded with the future funds ?
Should give you a 3.8 for sure , some never descide to run @ 4ghz as the voltge ( chip depending) can be high and then deemed not worth it to some . All im trying to say is don't expect 4+ is a given on any ryzen chip . Ryzen + is expected april/may if you can wait I would .

Ill have to do some checking i dont have any clue about Samsung B dies at this time. Yes i know im looking at dropping a few hundered next year on a pair of 4 gb crossfire video cards, I really cant im playing games on a laptop i bought for 100 bucks in a pawn shop i wanna play skyrim again asap. Ive seen the 1600x reach 4.1 ghz without a voltage increase while i dont expect i can hit that on a 100 dollar mainboard ill still try. I do have a question about would the onboard video capability be better than that video card i own if it even works or not.

Just do a search on DDR4-3200 @ CL14. Right now at Newegg Team Dark Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 Model TDPGD416G3200HC14ADC01 is $202 with code SOCIALTEN5.

Will do if its not a rgb ramset ill live everything else is lit up.

Edit: the cheepest i could find on new egg is 220 i would have to cut something out to afford em since there no 4gbx2 modules available I could upgrade it next year.

Ryzen+ can be plugged in to existing AM4 motherboards. Possible future upgrade and sell the old chip to help defer costs? You can save some money by skipping the NVME and getting a 120 GB SSD for the OS and programs, and keep the games on the HDD. Only advantage to games on a SSD is load times. That should save you a chunk of change that can go in the GPU budget or RAM budget, as both costs are currently outrageous. Stick with RAM on your motherboard's QVL, though. The problem isn't as pronounced as it was, but Ryzen does have RAM preferences and it's generally best to accommodate them.

Yea if there better than the 1800x ill do it next year ill just save the cpu moneys tight so its good for me to save unneeded parts altho offloading the 1600x next year could help. Ill look into it now thats not a bad idea planned to get a 1tb ssd next year to. Your right the ram i picked isnt on the qvl list however it has been reported to work with this mainboard by at least 2 people i know of I was actually thinking of downgrading a little speed wise and ocing it I do have plans to get more ram next year and just fyi next year really means next fall i get up to 1400 in heating assistance yearly because i lived in subsidized housing for half this heating season i think at least ill only get half the full amount and half of the subsidized housing amount im not 100% sure what the will do. If I get the full amount this time ill buy a NVME 1tb ssd and better ram for sure possibly a budget video card sub 200 bucks but doubtful. I can only do this because my bills are low as crap so far i moved in 3 weeks ago and got my first electric bill it was just $2.50 for the first week i avoid wasting gas or electric as much as i can.

On saving a bit more $ ( to maybe get better parts ) do you need a DVD player ( windows installs from usb now much faster than off a DVD ) .
Case is really personal preference but I am a big fan of Fractal Design - Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case its less than the case you listed and has much better temps out of the box ( and that is important to me ) .

Looks nice no i dont really need one its a old habit of mine to have em this laptop has a dvd rw burner so yes i could live without it and just might to free up 50 bucks for a better video card. I picked the case because is got pre installed rgb fan kits and its own controller mostly but also because it has that bay and up to 3 ssd cages beyond the 2 3.5 inch ones but might find a cheaper one as long as it has the rubber grommets.

Swapped out a couple things
MSI Radeon RX 550 4gb $134.99
AMD RYZEN 5 1400 $159.99

Ill be upgrading both in the future puts me at $947.89

Budget changed getting more money not alot but still a extra 100 bucks going back and forth between faster ram or faster cpu will repost the build later

First, congrats on getting back on your feet.

To bad you missed the Team Dark ram. The 15% off sale just ended. The ADATA will be kind of a crap shoot, should run but might only do 2600 never know till get it.

Would drop down to the regular Tomahawk at this point instead of the plus. Good bit cheaper.

Or investing in a better X370 board now since you might be keeping it longer term and upgrading cpu later. Some of the better cheap models:

And of course one of the best:

With your budget your paying to much premium for M2-2280 SSD. It maybe boots 2-3 seconds faster. I can really not tell much any difference between my current 960 EVO and old 850 EVO. Get a cheaper 2.5" will be plenty fast enough for gaming and Windows.

GPU's as the major pain to deal with right now. I'd really look for a used GTX 980 in your situation but I am a little more comfortable buying used and if I get burned I get burned. 1060 3GB's are also dumping onto the used market hard right now. Were some good prices on 6GB models also this week but they sold out quick just have to keep your eyes open.

Ya but not sure that ram would of worked with my first pick for a mainboard domt even know if its on the qvl list. I am thinking of going back to the list and swapping to a set of ripjaws since i dont think i can sync the ram with the rest of the rbg lights. Ive been thinking of a x370 mainboard since the mainboard needs to hold up for awhile might as well go with the best chipset im eying the MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON because its rbg lit and has 2 m2 slots. Storage is always a needed thing for me so more possibility is good my last system ran 3 sata and 1 pata hard drive and i was out of space lol. To squeeze it in i would need to skimp of the ssd the wd blue appeals to me more i would of gone with the blue m2 2280 but the keys wrong most of the mainboards ive looked at use type m. I had picked that one because its got pretty high read/write speeds origionally i had picked one that was just 10 bucks more than the wb blue sata ssd. As far as my video im still in the air between going with the fastest version i can afford and getting one that will just do the job i need my primary games i like to play is skyrim and dungeons and dragons online a older mmo I like new gpus myself.

I plan if i buy slower ram to oc it as well and my lighting is kinda important to me all 5 fans will be lit with rgb and same with the mainboard i plan to sync em all together.
