Hi I was thinking about changing out the old thermal paste in my inspiron 1420 with some AS5..
It's got an 8400gs in it, one that is affected my nvidia's weak die packing material, i figure some fresh thermal past could help it live a little longer..

Has anyone ever worked on laptops before,, is there anything i need to know before doing this? and would it void my warranty??

Thanks...

Have you already bought the AS5? If not, there are better options. There's TC-0098 if you are don't care about conductivity, and MX-2 if you want something totally non-conductive. Both transfer heat better than AS5.

Yeah ive already got a big unopened tube of AS5,, That's one thing im a little warry about is it's conductivity on a chip without a heatspreader

read dells site, should tell you how to open your case and get to the cpu

i did the same thing on an inspiron 9100.
