Looks like the Bulldozer Architecture was not to be, this is completely different again.

1 thread for 2 cores is gone, back to 1 thread for 1 core.

And there are some big numbers involved on improvements.

  • 30% better Ops Per Cycle
  • 25% wider Dispatch threads
  • Cache misses reduced by 30%
  • ~ 30% better power efficiency
That's pretty serious stuff, let hope it works.

That's pretty serious stuff, let hope it works.

This is not completely different, it's the same base architecture just with some heavy tweaks. You still have the same core/module setup but now you have a heavier duty front end to better supply the various cores. There's quite a few more details but I think the slides cover it pretty well.
