Got my new heatsink installed last night. Used the "Chill Factor" TIM it came with. I have AS5 and also got in on that free (after rebate) MX-2 deal from newegg, so I'll try those eventually for a comparison.

With stock speeds and the stock Intel cooler, I was getting temperatures in the mid-60s to mid 70s while playing BF3.

With the Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140 (and a "small" airflow improvement), I'm now getting temps in the high-30s to low-40s.

I'd say the average drop is about 25C! Pretty cool. Computer's also extremely quiet. This heatsink is great for anyone desiring the best of both worlds (cool/quiet).

In case anyone's wondering, idle temps are in the high-teens, low-20s.

I'll update with Prime results when I get them.

Ran Prime95. Temps were high-40s, low-50s on Cores 0, 1, and 3 and 5-7 degrees warmer on Core 2.

I did get a failure after 30 minutes with everything at stock speeds. Not sure what the deal is there. Will have to re-check my BIOS settings.

EDIT: Must have cleared my CMOS at some point. Memory speed was wrong. Set it back to it's correct, stock settings and now Prime is running swimmingly. Temps seem to have settled down even further as well. Down another degree or two on average. :)

Have I mentioned that I love this cooler? :) Prime temps are now in the 40s with the only core hitting 50-55 being Core 2.

I know that the single high core is a common issue. Does anyone know if it is a reporting issue or if it actually is hotter (maybe because it's in the middle?)?

You never mentioned your room temps. Every C in room temp is a C for CPU.

But glad it's working for you, good cooler you got there.

Try a remount, it might be a bit warmer on one side, but even 5C hotter isn't an issue on 1-2 cores.

We live with it.

Your good. Now run linpack or intelburn for 30 minutes. See what happens. If all is good try a bit of overclock for fun. Watch temps climb.

Overclocked a bit. 40x with +0.05 offset (+0.005 had errors after 30 minutes or so). Letting Prime run overnight, but an hour in and temps look to be sticking in the high-50s with Core 2 in the low-60s.

Room temp is probably 20-22c.

Ran with settings below for 1 hour+ in Prime. Temp maxes across the cores were 60-68. Averaged 51-57.

cpu ratio - 43
bclk - 100
spread spectrum - disabled
speedstep - enabled
turbo boost technology - enabled
additional turbo voltage - +0.004
internal pll overvoltage - disabled
long duration power limit - max (500)
long duaration maintained - auto
short duartion power limit - max (500)
primary plane current limit - max (500)
secondary plane current limit - max (500)
gt overclocking support - disabled

ram settings at defaults

Voltage - offset mode
offset - +0.005 - CPU-z reported 1.192/1.2/1.28 during load
load-line calibration - level 3/5

Working my way up now...

Prime crashed instantly : 44x and +0.005
Prime hardware failure @ ~9 mins : 44x @ +0.010V = 1.192/1.2/1.208/1.216 in CPU-z
Prime crashed @ ~2 hours : 44x @ +0.020V = 1.208/1.216/1.224 in CPU-z
Prime crashed @ ~2 hours : 44x @ +0.025V = 1.216/1.224/1.232 in CPU-z
Prime stable for 2hr 15min : 44x @ +0.035V = 1.224/1.232/1.24 in CPU-z Temp maxes across the cores were 64-72. Averaged 57-67.

Prime hardware failure @ ~3 mins : 45x @ +0.040V = 1.232/1.24/1.248 in CPU-z
Prime crashed @ 5 mins : 45x @ +0.050V = 1.24/1.248/1.256 in CPU-z
Prime crashed @ 45 mins : 45x @ +0.070V = 1.256/1.264/1.272 in CPU-z
Prime crashed @ 2hr 30min : 45x @ +0.080V = 1.264/1.272/1.28 in CPU-z
Prime hardware failure @ 2hr 15min 45x @ +0.085V = 1.272/1.28 in CPU-z

Just switched to a Z77 board, so I will probably start a new thread with OC results when I start doing that again.

Since this thread was started to discuss TRUE 140 temps, I will conclude by saying that I am still pretty impressed by it. At ~1.3V(4.5Ghz with HT enabled) in Prime, I was seeing temp maxes in the low 70s across all fours cores. Averages were in the 60s and I'm guessing the fan just runs at a constant speed because I never heard it get louder, making it pretty much silent.

Will add a link to the Z77 OC results thread when I start that.
