Was afraid to flash by us from what I read in Feb.03 post

Upgraded to the latest bios upgrade from shuttle. Everything in the manual tells that the maximum megahertz that this mother board will support is 1600. I am still wondering if it will support an 1800 mhz chip.

It says that it has a support for the 2400+ althlon xp, which is an 1800 mhz chip. I'm not sure because the board will only support a 1600 mhz chip and that this time some of the bios updates do not meet the specs set by the user's manual from shuttle.

With the old bios it supported 1x 2x agp and with the bios upgrade it should have supported up to 4x. With bios upgrade when I use everest it only tells me that I have 1x and 2x support.

Any background information would be great at this time. Thank you.

Hi John,

When you update the BIOS, it supersedes what the previous board restrictions were and what the manual says is now obsolete. The CPU you linked to at New Egg will work in your board. I also have a Shuttle AK32 (first rev. - no extra letter designation). I haven't upgraded its CPU yet (Duron 1100) but I just bought a 2600+ from New Egg with confidence it will work in my ECS K7S5A mobo. It's manual says it's limited to 1.5 Ghz, but latest BIOS supports up to 2600+ (2.0 Ghz). This is the same situation you are in, so I would say proceed with confidence.

About your AGP issue - my AK32 board preceeded yours and mine supports AGP 4X - just updating your BIOS may not have changed the DEFAULT AGP setting. Look in the Advanced Chipset section, under AGP & P2P Bridge Control - there is a SUB-MENU to set AGP mode to 4X. Yours may still be set to 2X while you have 4X available.

Good luck, Ken

edit: One other possibility with your AGP situation is that your card looks pretty old - IT may be the reason you're not showing AGP 4X - it might be 2X only.
