samsung vm7000 laptop.... ancient

this is a friend's old laptop. there is a black screen, no video, computer boots up nicely in the background, i attach it to an external monitor plugged into the back and it works fine. so not the mobo or video card. definitely a problem with the lcd screen. sometimes i can see faint image. i imagine it's a problem with the backlight. how difficult is this to repair on one's own? anyone know a good online tutorial? parts place? anyone had to deal with this before?

Your best bet is to buy and identical laptop off ebay or somewhere if you can find it and just swap the screen. That parts easy, finding one may not.
