ok so i picked up a used HD 7770 XFX double dissipation for 38$ im going to replace the thermal paste as well as the thermal pads, but im not sure what thickness the pads need to be can someone please link me to the proper pads i need or at least tell me how thick im millimeters they need to be a link to what size pads i need would be great

I can't find any info on your specific GPU. I had a HD7970 that needed pad replacement and was able to find info on it. Looking at the 7850 and 7970 for comparisons it looks like all the memory ICs use .5mm and the VRM/Mosfets vary by card and use either .5mm or 1mm. It would be best for you to get a sheet of each. It's not too expensive and that way you have everything on hand when you're ready. Here are a couple reference sheets I could find.

Also, if you look at the 6xxx series cards, some used 1.5mm thick pads. I did not find that to be the case for the 7xxx series cards, but that does not mean yours is out of the question.

Performance PCs is probably your best place to get pads. Back when I did this Fujipoly was the highest-rated. I have no idea who is the best today but would assume any major brand would meet their spec'd W/mk.

my local pc parts store has pads in either 1mm or 1.5mm thick is that to thick or no? i know the heatsink will compress it a bit?

That depends on your card. I would use what ever is spec'd. Measure what you have now and find out. You can get these online easy enough.

I'd buy both...

You can measure what is there (not the compressed part) and check too...............
