a quick poll to see what people are interested in trying for January's OS of the Month.

Haiku: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiku_(operating_system)
Syllable: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syllable_(operating_system)
FreeBSD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freebsd
Debian: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian
ReactOS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactos

I left out FreeVMS because it appeared that it required a freebsd or linux install to work off of instead of being a full, distinct operating system.

btw: this poll is set to end in 5 days, since I want to have the new os picked on/by january 1st.

I voted for reactOS although due to their server failure, it might be better to bump them back a month, if they don't get the server online.

by all three you mean sarge (stable), etch (testing), and experimental? I think I'd pick Etch since it was supposed to be moved to stable this december, and it is pretty much stable as it is.

Hmmm...then I vote Debian :)

indeed i have heard very good things about freebsd, a shell i had a while ago used it. i've used openbsd a little more.

i'm stoked about this os of the month, just got done with truckin now i'll be home to seed and try these puppies out on my laptop and see which works with my generic hardware :)

I'll add hurd next month...am I correct that only Debian and Gentoo provide Hurd installs? If there are others, what would be the prefered one to use?

welp, poll is closed.

And the winner is: FreeBSD.

check out the new thread for the January os of the month, it has a link to the torrent file (which, btw, I could not get the link to load the other day, so hopefully that has been fixed)
