Ah yes i enjoy bashing... cant be helped.

Recently someone used 8.1 in order to print some very ... i mean very... delicate data and the 8.1 automatically was installing every single printer in the whole radius of the network no matter wireless or wired. And then the system was printing all the data to every single printer in the whole access radius. I have been asked to fix the problem and i would say that action caused so many issue to the user that there was more to fix than just the printer usage. It was somewhat a cataclysm because it caused a very problematic situation considering the printed data.

Anyway, i never experienced such a behavior on any other system i ever used or owned, thats absolutly inacceptable to connect to every single printer at once and set them all online and use them all at once, its a action simply invalid without the clear command from its users. This is a insecure behavior and a high risk for every buisness PC. And im telling every single time to any user, that system is not suitable for buisness use (especially for people with low knowledge because 8.1 need lot of fixing).

Anyway, in order to make that freaked out system usable for buisness . Just because i have been asked, i would never touch it without the force of a gun in front of my nose and im so happy i really want to live. So i had to patch the kacheling issue using a Classic Shell, i had to throw out almost every unnecessary functions, now recently had to fix the printer crap too and way to many other things.

But the Classic Shell doesnt work perfect, its better than nothing. For personal use i just have 8.1 installed on a super cheap Internet only PC because i got my 8.1 for discount price (simply not much people want it and i applaud them), and it caused me big struggles because having to input all the personal data just in order to make the system usable is very disturbing, because its absolutly not necessary and i know how many websites has been hacked in order to gather personal informations, later its used for spaming inside mailboxes... casino-mails and whatelse. All the data spreading on the net is a issue hard to tackle and a OS should never contribute to the issue at all. Of course i did not use personal datas in order to make the OS running, but i still will congratulate MS for trying ...

So i know a OCer may not understand at all, but such behaviors and such a interface is making me want to :bang head yes bang my head... And i safely will pass on a few % performance gain, in order to get a hassle free system, yes the good old WIN 7 was perfect and i still use it and i will even use it the next 10 years in term MS isnt coming away from the dirty path they are currently using. I guess thats not a proper OS, its a spy tool in order to make the NSA happy. And i always tell people to use Waterfox, its one of the most secure browser and its using Startpage (because Google itself is gathering many data, personal ones too), one of the most secure browsing methods ever. But if people lack to get my messages then so be it, but no one should ever cry if theyr 8.1 was being mean to them, its the result of theyr own action.

Security itself isnt free, it usualy will come with knowledge and the willpower in order to use the correct stuff and going through in a diligent way.

So, 8.1 please be gone and hopefully the next OS may become better than that. Thank you a lot for doing as commanded because in term you dont, i will be asked to fix the mess and i truly got better things to do....

I love the threads that make me question if I'm on Overclockers or AboveTopSecret...

I only have 8.1 on my lappy and I like it ok for just browsing the internet and checking my email, maybe some light gaming, but you log in with a Windows live password that can be accessed and changed online. Every Windows app from email to weather to your own calender is synced to some kind of cloud with your email and password required to log in top it. Ît all has to sync up. It all could easily spy on everything you're doing. I don't like that much.

I've never seen that happen before (regarding the printers) and we have multiple windows 8/8.1 machines at our office. we are 99% Windows 7, but we had some exceptions and haven't had any complaints. I point to an error between chair and keyboard.

I'd guess that the printers all added via group policy.

Something went very wrong there with the printer.
This should not be happening out of the box, unless some settings somewhere was specifically changed.

Classic Shell resolves legitimate problems you are talking about since it gives us a choice to set defaults we like and turn off what we don't like. It is only a solution for us experienced users however since computer illiterate people can't really be expected to know how to disable both Metro and Charms.

As for your other legitimate complaint about personal info. Disconnect the internet when setting up Windows 8, and install everything all the way up to having to activate it. Then and only then connect the internet for the first time.

If you did not disconnect your internet connection, look for this link at the bottom: Sign in without a Microsoft account then select Local Account.

It is small and almost hidden but it is there and can be used to avoid giving Microsoft fake or real personal information.
