Buddy thru a new rig together with a xp2100/512 corsair 3200 on a KT4V mobo.Set sdram feq to 333 and fsb to 140 to start.Using sandra 2001 it score the mem at 930:eek: is this because hes using an old vers of sandra?Seems to me this should give an easy 2500+ score.We tried sdram at 400 but failed to boot at 140 fsb.Im not to up on amd boards so I need to know if setting the sdram feq at 333 does this lock it there even when you up fsb?If what I figure is right at 333 its 2.5xfsb so at 140 the memory should be around 350mhz,is my thinking correct here?

don't you mean 1930 or did it really only hit 930?no the memory will not lock. it goes up with the fsb just like evereything else.

for one thing it will not hit 2500mb/s running at fsb speeds of 140. always remember this! youre data transfer rate is based on the fsb speed multiplied by 8 megabytes per second. it goes alittle somthing like this:

133x2=266mhz-fsb=266x8mb/s=2128mb/s giving you pc2100 RAM

166X2=333mhz-fsb=333x8mb/s=2664mb/s giving you pc2700 RAM

and so on with 400mhz and 433mhz ddr.

in other words. youre memory bandwith is limited to what youre fsb speeds are running. even though the ram is running 333mhz the fsb is only running 280. and you will only use 280mhz of the 333mhz!

280x8=2240 mb/s this is the max bandwith you would be able to utilize at that fsb setting no matter how fast you run the ram. and to even get it to those specs the ram has to be totally tweeked.

it is always better to run the ram at the same speed as the fsb that away you are not wasting any bandwith and you will reach higher bus speeds.

did this help?

is the cpu unlocked? unlock the cpu. set muliplier to 10 in bios and fsb to 166 and run the ram at 166. start there and see how that goes.

No I mean 930 with sandra 2001:eek: :eek: will be getting sandra 2003 and chip is not unlocked yet.So I gather from what your saying is that no matter what his memory feq is set to it will always run at be 2xfsb.Why did they bother putting the mem feq setting in the bios then.I take it then that amd boards dont have settings like 1:1 - 3:4 - 4:5 for the memory as does a board like the intel p4pe by asus?

Much better - 2180- and as I thought with ram feq set at 333 it runs at 2.5 x fsb.Sandra shows the ram running at 350mhz with fsb at 140

yes and as i said you are only reaching pc2100 speeds because of the fsb. even though the ram is running at high speeds the bandwith is being wasted. becuase the fsb isn't takeing it in!
