CPU Tempurature Die/Socket differences

ok this is the rig in my sig and I just got a vantec tornado
here are my temps(MBM5 averages):
Case 26c
Socket 34c
Diode 50c

should there be a 16c difference between socket and diode temps? I am using really crappy heatsink compound and I wonder if that could be it.
