will ddr266 work in a ddr400 motherboard?

i have 768mb pc2100 and i dont want to get new ram if i upgrade, so i was wondering if it will work in, say, an abit is7-e.

yes it will work. Why wouldnt it? Them otherboard is just saying it supports UP TO ddr400 unoverclocked. You can get your ram as fast as the ram can go if you overclock it.
