P4C800 Deluxe - How to get 2-2-2-5-4 ??

I've just bought a P4C800 Deluxe + a Pentium 4 @ 2.8C Ghz

I'd like to buy 512mb of ram in order to get 2-2-2-5-4 (fastest memory).

I've just been on "pricewatch.com"

Which DDR should I buy (2 x 256 mb) at the lower cost ;) in order to get the best performance results ?

How can I be sure about the performances ?

Any experience would be appreciated.

For 2.8C the best to get is 2-3-2-6 which is going further than 2-2-2-5. Talking about 1:1, doesn't really make sense using 5:4 at all with that processor.
Beside 2-2-2-5 will give you no gain on bandwidth as compared to 2-2-2-6. 2-3-2-6 will decrease the bandwidth significantly but will open FSB for 5-10 more MHz.

2.8 is in a sort of a hole for tight timings, it is too high to run 5:4 and yet too low to run 1:1 with tight timings. So you have to compromise to 2-3-2-6 or even 2-3-3-6 which is still fairly aggressive.

I think he's talking about having the 2.8C processor, not a 2.4C overclocked to 2.8GHz.

The 2.8C has 200MHz FSB, so most high-quality BH-5 based DDR400/433 would give you 200MHz @ 2-2-2-5 timings. BH-5 promised memory consists currently of only Mushkin Black Level 2($157/512MB) and BH-5 Promo-build($139/512MB). Buffalo PC3700 (really DDR400 that runs best @ DDR400-440) also might have it at a good price ($103/512MB).

You can overclock 2.8C to say 3.3 GHz. You need 236 FSB for that, Winbond BH-5 cannot do that on 2-2-2-6. So?
Are you going to run 5:4 ? That would be memory on 189x2=378?You don't need Winbond for that, it is a waste of bandwidth that memory is capable of.

Once again, to run 2-2-2-6 with 1:1 with Winbond you need 3.0C. To run 5:4 with Winbond you need 2.6C or 2.4C.
2.8C just has no place for 2-2-2-6 with Winbond on 1:1.

Do you understand? People that don't are claiming how 2.8C is poor overclocker. It isn't just you need to know what memory and timings to use, that is all. Unless you plan watercooling.
 
It's not out of the question for good BH-5 memory to run 220-230MHz 1:1 without any extreme cooling methods. Who said anything about running at 3.3GHz? Running 1:1 w/ 220MHz-230MHz FSB with 2-2-2-5 timings will give you 3.08GHz-3.22GHz and better performance then 2.4C/2.6C running with 5:4 relationships and 2-2-2-5 timings.

I wouldn't buy 2.8C. Because 2.6C is at a good price and overclock high. But if you must then OCZ EL Gold PC 3700. This runs 466 at 2-3-3-7 exactly for 1:1 with 2.8C.
This might be the very best memory around for Intel processors.

First of all, it is very unlikely you will have anything over 220 with Winbond BH-5 on 2-2-2-6. I have these chips and I get the best with 217. On 218 it starts to error on 5-6 loops of MemTest86, using 2.85V which is what this Asus board has. You might be able to find one chip for 220 or over but dual channel? Nope, I doubt that. I am just making a PC with P4C800-E Deluxe and 2.6C and I opted for Geil DDR500.
Therefore 3.08 GHz is no match for 3.3 GHz at 5:4. No sir!

I have 2x512 pc3500 XMS and 2x256 pc3500 plats and I run my config 2-3-3-6 at 234mhz. Rock solid baby!
 
That sounds right.
2-3-2-6 will give you 5-10 MHz of FSB as compared to 2-2-2-6, some memory overclocks better, some worse. 2-3-3-6 will give you another 4-5 MHz on FSB, again it depends on memory.

Going from 2-2-2-6 to 2-3-2-6 there is a big loss on bandwidth which you regain by increasing clock 7-12 MHz. Higher clock of processor is a gain as well. You always need to find the sweet spot, there are no outright rules for every setup. TRAS is not as much relevant for the bandwidth.

236 FSB sounds just right for 2.8C, using decent air cooling.
