Driver Still loaded?!

Currently on my XP pro computer when I plug in my Thumb Drive I get the mount failed sound. I go to the hardware manager and it gives me this error:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"

But, It does not say how to fix it, when I reboot it fixes the problem for a little while but then it happens again. I want a permanent soloution or atleast one that does not require rebooting. And the problem is not limited to the one USB port, it affects ALL of them.

Are you stopping the device properly before unplugging it, or are you just yanking it out?

I have windows setup to treate it as a un-chached device. Meaning that I don't have to tell the system to safely remove, and I don't get the option to.

I'd try the other way. Enabling the option to stop the device, and see how that goes.

It just makes me mad that my laptop can do it for 6 weeks solid, yet my desktop will drop out after 7 days.
