This is a very annoying problem. My desktops (4 with MSVDM) keep going blank after a short period of time. The amount of time it takes to happen is random and in order to get them back I have to open up the selections dialog and browse to each individual image and reapply them as I would if I were to change the image. It’s almost as though MSVDM forgets were the images are.

I’ve searched the forums and googled and hunted for a solution to this. This really bugs me because I’ve usually found a solution by now. This has been happening for just over 2 months now.

Windows XP Pro SP1
Style XP running for desktop themes
StyleBuilder used to create themes

The MS Virtual Desktop Manager is pretty flakey, and plus it's not a real VDM in the true sense. There's only a couple of others that I know of, which I haven't used personally nor am I aware of their functionality. One is ATI's HydraVision, but of course an ATI VC is required. The other is MultiDesk, which is available here...

I haven't heard too many good things about this app., plus I'm not sure if it's compatible with XP...it was last updated in '99. You might try searching MajorGeek's database for a different VDM...

I got used to the virtual desktop in linux, and after I found MSVDM I actually thought the evil empire got something right for a change. Thanks for the links. I have to find a replacement for MSVDM.

Sorry bout' the evil empire thing but I think they are responsible for the mess the internet has become.
