Are DDR2's backwards compatible?

I have a 915 intel board but may be able to get a 945 from my friend. But I need more memory now. If I buy a DDR2 667, will it work fine in my 915 board which is suppose to support 533 memory?

My gut feeling says it should be fine, but I thought I should ask the pro's here first.

Thanks.

Some i915 chipsets use DDR and some use DDR2 (a few use both, but not at the same time). Double check that yours supports DDR2. Any speed DDR2 will work in any motherboard that supports DDR2 RAM.

Thanks for responding.

Yes, I'm currently using DDR2's but need more ram. They are DDR2 533's, if I remember correctly. The reason I wanted to know if the 667 will work is because, I'd like to get more ram now and would like to keep them once (or if) I get the other motherboard that uses 667's.

Hope that made sense.
So, it should work then, just at lower speeds. Good to know.
