Not strictly an overclocking problem (that's what I bought the board for but I've not got that far yet), but I hope someone may be able to help me out...
My self-built system had been running with no problems for 2-3 months and then
intermittently failed to load with a beep code on a couple of occasions.
On these occasions a simple reset cleared the problem and no further
diagnosis was undertaken.
However, the problem is now recurring consistently and the system will not
load at all even following reset or power down.
On further investigation the problem occurs at POST Code 05, as shown on the
motherboard LEDs.
The associated beep code appears to be alternate long high and low pitch
tones with an occasional aberration but no discernable pattern.
The specification of the system is as follows:
· Mainboard: Abit TH7II-RAID (BIOS version 37)
· Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.9GHz
· Memory: 2 x Kingston Technology ValueRAM 256MB Non-ECC 800Mhz RAMBUS RIMM
(Using slots A1 and B1 with C-RIMMs in slots A2 and B2)
· Disks: 2 x 30 Gb Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60 drives (using IDE 3 and 4 as
RAID 0 on HPT370 RAID Controller)
· Graphics Card: ATI All-in-Wonder RADEON AGP 4x/2x 32Mb
· Monitor CTX PR711F
Other system components (DVD, CD R/W, Soundcard, Ethernet Card, Modem) were
installed but removed as part of diagnosis.
Additionally, as part of diagnosis the following components have been
temporarily swapped for alternative components to no effect:
· Monitor
· Graphics card (3D AGP card swapped for 2D PCI card)
· Keyboard & Mouse
The Memory has also been removed and replaced in slots A2 and B2 to confirm
firm seating in slots.
According to the TH7II-RAID User Manual the POST Code 05 activities are (1)
Blank Out Screen and (2) Clear CMOS error flag.
As part of diagnosis the CMOS memory has also been cleared by use of the
CMOS Memory Clearing Header.
I am now at a loss as to the cause of the problem, other than a failure of
some component on the Mainboard (which I'm pursuing with Abit in the UK and the distributor I bought it through).
Any help gratefully received.
