Running fan at 17v -Safe?

aynone ever ran a fan at 17v (red wire in normal +12v line and black in -5v line) for a long time or know if it is safe on the power supply or anything else? ..............thx
 
well the fan generally doesnt last too long like this.. depending on the fan speed at first if its quite slow then it may last longer but if u wanna run like a vantec tornade like that it may burn out right away

Agreed. That's quite an overvolt on the fan! I can see a 1-2V overvolt, but that's awfully high ... -- Paul
 
In the long run the fan will die out quickly compare to the standard volt of 12. THe life span of the fan is determined by the quality of the fan.
