Hey guys,
I'm going to be buying a new computer to build soon.. this is a new thing to me so bear with me please :) I was looking at this really nice thermaltake case that I like.. link here http://www.thermaltake.com/products/cases/5000a.htm , and I was wondering if anyone has that case has any complaints/suggestions about another case? Thanks. Also, another stupid question but I need to know.. when you buy a case does it come with a power button? or is that something that needs to be purchased separately. I dont want to spend hours building this thing and not be able to turn it on :) thnx.

The case you picked is a pretty solid case and will serve you well. What would really help is if you had a price range in mind as cases can be as cheap as 50 bucks and go all the way up to $800. Right now, the hot thing among enthusiasts is aluminum cases. You can find a good selection at the links I'll include below. And about the power switch: I have yet to come across a case that doesn't include one, so you should be just fine there ;)

Some popular case companies:

thanks a lot man.. I would get an aluminum case but the only aluminum thermaltake that I will buy is only in silver and I want a black case.. So Im going to go with this case I think.. thanks a lot.

Here is what I consider a more up to date case...It is black and aluminum...Really nice case with a decent power supply to boot...Has all the whistles and bells...Washable filter, front USB-IEEE1394, audio ports, provisions for two 120m/m fans, individual trays, with rubber grommets...Kind of plain looking but the finish is first class, has great air-flow that is quiet with two 120m/m fans connected to the "fan only" molex connectors from the power supply...Nice case...You might want to look for a thread by Katana man that provides a list of cases using 120m/m fans...:D ... http://www.antec-inc.com/pro_details_enclosure.php?ProdID=15138 ;)

THAT antec SONATA looks so damn sweet. Im thinking of getting it. Hows the airflow on it and does the vibration supporting mounts acutally work? Would it be a good cooling case for a AMD 2500+ ?

Thanks

I just built a rig recently with this case. It's quite attractive especially with that cool blue LED on the front panel. It is very quiet with everything stock. I added a 120mm case fan for additional airflow, but it mounts behind the hard drive brackets rather than in front of the brackets which would be closer to the case opening. There are front panel usb and firewire ports. My only gripe is that I couldn't fit a Zalman 7000 hsf on the board because there wasn't enough room next to the PSU. Had to go with the stock intel hsf. BTW the mobo I put in here is an ASUS p4p800. If you'll need better cooling this case might not have a large enough interior, but otherwise it looks sweet!

Both of those cases are pretty sweet, but something to think about is if you are working on more than one system; or will be in the near future.

I'm in the planning process of moving all of my personal systems over to Rackmount chasis'. I made the company I work for switch all the servers to rackmount and it worked out really well.

Although the cost can be prohibitive, it might also be a good idea for you.

Notice sig, I have the Thermaltake Xaser III V1000A.
She's a beast but I love her.
Only mod I have made was adding some interior lighting since my kids demanded it :D

Nice and quiet too. Of course I hear my CPU cooler now but I am changing that as soon as my slk800 arrives.

The sonata is a great little box too. I like the 120mm capable.

What sold me on the Tt case was the 7 silent fans w/filters, the 4 knob fan controler, temp display, tooless everything, front/top accesable Firewire, USB, mic headphone. It was the only case that came stock with everything I wanted. Add to that it doesn't look too bad either.

That case is built on an Antec SOHO file server. Unless you want the special graphics I would get the Antec SOHO file server and a DigitalDoc5 and you would have pretty much the same case.

Thank You,
Daniel

Actually, both cases are made by Chenming. The Chenming/Chieftec version is $45 (steel) and $75 (aluminum) @ newegg. :)
