selling ES chips?

i was looking on mwave.com, and i came across this

nothing special there right, well go up to add CPU and they have the option to add the 5x1 series of cpus, know correct me if i am wrong here, but arent those engineering sample cpus? if so, why would someone sell those? and should i get this

Last I checked the 5x1's are just the 500 series with 64bit turned on. Nothing too special about them.

No, enabling the 64bit extensions has nothing to do with the multi being unlock. They are 2 seperate issues. As Sseter said, nothing special 'bout those procs except tthe can run the 64bit version of Win

ES procs have unlocked multis. 5x1 procs are not ES.

I think all 775 cpus were 64bit ready but intel didnt enable it till the cpu was more popular.

no only the 6xx series are 64 bit, the 5xx arnt unless its the 5x1's.. as i recall

only being an engineering sample makes it an es...

you can get 560es, like mine, 561es, whatever..

plain and simple

5xx series = regular 775 pentium 4

5x1 series = regular 775 pentium 4 + 64 bit extensions (not ES)

6xx series = pentium 4 775 + 64 bit extentions + 2xmore L2 Cache then 5xx/5x1 series

The 5xx also have 64 bit instructions on the die, they are just turned off.

That is where you are mistaken. There are ESs of every chip. The 5x1 are a legimate series that Intel has recentally released.
