If it makes you feel any better, my Vertex 1 has been fine since the day I got it. Also just had to RMA an OCZ PSU that died after just a few weeks and their RMA process was fast and simple (just in case).

There was a firmware problem early in the life of those drives, I believe it is fixed now but most of the negative reviews should be from then.
