can't get an IP

I am tryingto set up two computers via linksys router. i can see that there is a conenction between the computer and router, and router and cable modem, but i cannot get an IP when i try to renew it. If i bypass the router and plug a computer straight into the computer i can get an IP. Could someone help me please?

we'll probably need a few more details, but start by checking your dhcp pool from the router, and making sure you have dhcp turned on in your OS. Also, make sure you've given the right numbers for the outside connection in your router configuration.
