There is no reason not to. Some tv's have really bad latency so it really depends on what you have.
2K (2048 X 1152) is almost the same as 1080 (1920 X 1080) so no great boost there.
Your 6950 will not be maxing the refresh on your 120htz on many titles these days anyways.

Some TVs do support a true 120Hz and not just marketing 120Hz, even if they don't specifically list it. Even something as cheap as the 4K Seiki supports it in 1080p mode.
