Asus CHV sound problem

I can not get any sound out of the head jack on my monitor after plugging in the speakers on the back of the computer, The earphones work but not play through the music programs on the computer. Anyone know how to get both to work at same time or how to get them to work at all?

I am new to Windows 8 and dont know how

From desktop right click on the speaker icon in the system tray, playback devices, set the monitor to default.

Same way it's done in 7/Vista
