I have many parts from older PCs, and I am using them to build a basic wireless media server. It will be used mostly for music and pictures, but also for a few movies here and there. I will be using Windows 7 Pro, and will have 2 separate hard drives; a 40GB IDE drive for the OS, and a 200GB IDE drive for the media.

I have selected two possible builds:

Build 1:
MOBO: LGA 775, 4GB DDR2 Supported, PCIe x 16
CPU: Celeron D. 2.8ghz 256/533
RAM: 2GB DDR2 800
GPU: Nvidia GT 210 512mb

Build 2:
MOBO: MPGA 478B, 2GB DDR Supported, AGP
CPU: Pentium 4 3ghz 512/800
RAM: 1GB DDR 400
GPU: Nvidia FX 5500 256mb

I am guessing I should go with Build 1, but I am not so sure; that Pentium 4 is far > the Celeron D...

Thoughts?

You'll like the extra RAM when you start copying a large number of files around. CPU will have far less of an effect.

Shoulda removed thread lol, I just finished building it. :p I also decided to put 4GB of DDR2 instead of 2GB. Now I just have to figure out how to seal the case while maintaining acceptable temperatures.

Thanks for the feedback. :D
