I have this 775 motherboard:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2891#ov
and a core 2 quad with 4 gigs of ram that I want to modernize since it still works great.

I am going to put it in a new budget corsair case that has front usb 3.0, so I need a PCI card that can accept the case's usb 3 plug. Does such a thing exist? I have only been able to find pci cards that have standard usb 3.0 plugs for drives.

I'll be putting in an SSD, and a mechanical drive for storage. Anything else I should do to get it up to par?

Thanks,
Kos

Xeon LGA771 to LGA775 mod? :D

PCI versions of USB 3.0 cards are relatively rare, and cost more than PCI-E versions, but some PCI-E USB 3.0 cards don't work unless plugged into an IDE or floppy disk power connector because they lack an onboard +5V converter, and the PCI-E bus provides only +3.3V and +12V. I've been using cheap cards from Meritline or Ebay, and the only problem has been that some of their sockets don't let the USB 3.0 pins make contact because the plastic separators in the sockets were too wide, limiting operation to USB 2.0 mode. Trimming them with an X-acto knife restored USB 3.0 speed.

Here's a review of some USB 3.0 chipsets:

It seems NEC and Asmedia are among the safer bets.

I gave up all my 775 rigs because I could buy SB or IB motherboards and cpu's that used less power and were just as powerful or more powerful than the 775 rigs.

I rebuilt my file server with an IB processor and MB for $62 total. It's a dual core celeron cheapy, but is equal to or better than my E8400 rig and uses WAAY less power.

Thanks, that helps. I found this one that looks promising and has the motherboard header:
