I am pretty sure it wouldn't matter which brands the cards are made by, but when Crossfiring is it better to have the same actual brand?

I have a Sapphire 6870 and an HIS 6870 Xfired.

I also noticed they have different BIOS version, but I think that would be mfg specific
 
Xfire... was thinking this was about that gaming IM client! :p

It shouldnt be an issue, no. So long as the cores match (they do), and the amount of ram matches (?).

Yes, both 1gb versions. and it's too bad that crossfire isnt universally supported, you would think that would be on AMD's shoulders and not the developers so much.
