deleting from desktop question

when you delete icons off the desktop that is just deleting the shortcut, correct?

In most cases, yes. Some programs are standalone though.

If its an icon to a program its typically a shortcut.

If its a file (not a shortcut to a file) then it gets deleted.

Look for the little swooshy arrow thing in the bottom left of the icon, that indicates that it is a shortcut... Also a right click properties will show that it is a shortcut being about 5kb or so...

If it is a direct EXE or another program file, word doc, you name it. It will just have the icon without the arrow symbol of a shortcut in the lower left hand corner of the icon... and be a much larger file size.

Look for THIS symbol.
