Hi, I'm building new PC and considering following parts:

ABIT AT7 motherboard
2x 512MB Consair PC2700 DIMM DDR 333MHZ
CPU - Palomino Athlon XP 2100+ or 2200+
2x HDD MAXTOR 80GB 7200RPM's ATA/133 - RAID

1. Mobo memory specs say:
Four 184-pin DIMM sockets support PC1600/PC2100/PC2700 DDR DRAM modules
Supports DDR333 unbuffered DRAMs up to 2GB and registered DRAMs up to 3GB
Supports 6 banks up to 3GB DRAMs for unbuffered DDR200/266 modules
Supports 8 banks up to 3.5GB DRAMs for registered DDR200/266 modules

I will be doing video editing. Is Consair CMX512-2700C2 registered DDR333 DRAM? Would that be the best choice for RAM?

2. I read good reviews for ABIT AT7 mobo. Is there other mobo's that are better?

3. I can't decide on the heatsink/fan. What do you suggest? Is Alpha PAL8045U or Volcano 7+ the best choice? I read that these are HUGE fans. Not sure if that is good or bad.

4. Is there any reason why I should consider the Pentium route?

5 I probably will oc the system. I read that the Abit AT7 only recognizes some models of the 2200+ CPU. Is that still ture?

I'm interested in all ansers for 1-5

Thanks

1) to be honest you dont need registered ram if your using only 1gig. im not sure what the best ram is to get - somebody else can tell you that - but its mportant to get ram that can achieve high mhz (200mhz+ would be ideal) ( see 5.)

2) dunno - but sombody else will

3) i recommend an ax-7 - best performance for the price. An slk-800 is the absolute best heatsink, but is double the cost of the ax7

4)bahh - pentium.i wouldnt, but im sure others will tell you why you should

5) get a xp1600+ while you still can or wait for the xp2600+
personally id go for the 1600. unlock it, turn the multiplier down and ramp the fsb up to match the speed of a stock 2100+ or 2200+ (though it will go quite higher with good cooling)

memory bandwidth is very important when doing things like video editing.
so, an unlocked xp1600+ at 173mhz x 10 (1730mhz cpu speed) will far outperform a stock 2100 (13*133mhz) due to its much faster memory speed (173mhz as opposed to 133mhz)

hope these answers help
