I've tried 2 different Diamond multimedia modems on an old hewlett packard(133mhz, eww) and niether will work, also there is only 1 com port in the system properties' hardware menu. I'm thinking the modem doesn't have a port to connect through. The comp will not talk to either modem using any drivers but it detects the modem on startup so i'm pretty positive it's the comp's fault. Can anyone confirm this? This is the first time I haven't been able to fix someone's comp problems and it's really bugging me. The comp is my grand uncle's so I wanna tell him what is happening for sure. All i really need right now is to know that that is the only prob it might be. He did have this really wierd modem/soundcard hybrid(wtf? never seen one b4, gameport, hone in, sound out, in, and mic) that went in an isa port but it was hit by lightning and the resistors on it fried an i'm pretty sure nothing was damaged. thanx guys 'n gals.
