Hi,

I just bought a Iwill from Newegg.com. and I am going to buy my memory for it and wanted to know if it supports just one stick (256 Mb) or does it require a pair? I seem to remember that you used to have to put memory in pairs. That may be outdated though. Thanks for your help.

the KK266-R uses regular ole SDRam, you do not have to pair it up, I have a KK266(no R) and I have 2 64M & 1 128M PC-133's, gonna got to PC-150 SOON, I'd suggest you do the same. Get you some good PC-150 Ram!

Thanks, I thought that may have been old memory. Now I can get just one stick vs a pair.

Rallycry, KK266 uses PC-133 SDRAM. Though some people believe that buying PC-150 is benificial, all that is PC-133 that has been "tested" to reach 150mhz. Save some money and get 256mb Crucial PC-133 cas2 for $68 w/free shipping. I have had mine over 150mhz. This is great memory at a great price.
Also I would stay w/ 1 stick as I have heard of some problems running 2 or 3 sticks. Not everyone, some have had problems this way.

Haven't heard about anyone having problems with multple sticks of ram, could be due to "aggressive" memory settings or shitty ram, as for PC-133 v. PC-150, while PC-150 is not a standard, you're pretty much guaranteed to get 150 out of it, maybe more. PriceWatch has some great prices on PC-150, and a good deal cheaper than Crucial, check this out:

ONLINE ORDER ONLY - OVERCLOCKABLE Tonicom Brand PC166CAS2 PC150/PC166 128MB 168pins SDRAM PC166 COMPATABLE and OVERCLOCKABLE to PC166-183 CASE 2 6NS 6 LAYER $ 31 12.75 FedEx 2 Day 5/24/01 7:50:12 PM CT NeutronUSA.com

That's a current (5/28) listing for name brand (Tonicom) PC-150 ram. Pick yourself up 2 of these 128M Dimms for 256M, and you're good to go! Note-I know Tonicom is not the best name, but at that price for name brand industry standard PC-150 Ram who can complain? IMHO of course...

bruce, Do the math, thats $87.50 for 256mb of PC-"166" vs. Crucial PC-133 for $68 delivered. Crucial is Micron memory and is known to be among the best.
The $19.50 gets a Vantec FCE62540D HSF or a FOP-32 HSF for the new board.

Sorry, wasn't payin' close attention. I'm sorry!!!! must've been asleep...

LMAO...
i agree, read an awful lot of reviews, and i'd definitely stick to crucial or muskin CL2 PC133, and stick to one stick.. LOL...
there are issues sometimes with more. and since 256mb is all you need to get the best efficiency, as per several reviews and tweak sites, showing where more than 256mb leads to negative returns....
go with one 256mb PC133 CL2 from a major label. you'll be very happy!

you're gonna love that board bro!

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the good info. I went ahead and bought a stick of Crucial 256M cas 2 ram. I have my 1.0 Ghz T-bird AXIA Y ($130 delivered), Enlight case, I bought an extra 80 mm case fan by Sanyo Denki ( I think they are decent). Now I just need to wait for my HSF (a CPC-30370 Sunon High Speed 27 CFM Sunon 38.5db fan) and arctic silver II. Should be here by Tuesday. To bad I probably won't be able to put it together until friday. :(

Do you think I should get a non-conductive shim? I heard the clip for the HSF was good enough that I don't really need it. I will not be taking it off ever (unless I don't put it on right the first time. :) )

Thanks again !!!!!
