i have a amd 1.15ghz cpu
256 ddr ram
radeon 7500 vid card

i want to upgrade my vid card and ram. i need a vid card for $100 or less, i was thinking about getting a GF FX5200 128mb but im not sure, what do you guys think i should get for $100 or less?

this is for my cousin, he also wanted to get 256mb of ram more but he doesnt know what kind of ddr ram he has. i told him to run cpu-z to check but it didnt say what kind, is there any other programs that tell you what kind of ram you have? he also said he has a athlon xp 1.15ghz cpu, is the 1.15ghz a amd xp 1600+?

For 100$ Try to get a Radeon 8500/9100 for around 80$, or if youre lucky you will find a Ti4200 for under 100$. The 5200 is a horrible card, much slower than a 4200, and about on par with an 8500LE at 250/250

I wouldnt call the 5200FX a horrible card, it is exactly what it is marketed to be, a DX9 compliant budget card. Much the same as the Radeon 9000 was/is marketed to be a fully compliant DX8.1 card. The tests that I saw with the 5200FX put it right about on par with a Radeon 9000, and even a bit behind it in tests where anti-aliasing where used. For a $100 card, the 5200FX isnt a bad buy, just dont expect it to blow the doors off of everything that you throw at it.

True, but that $100 can be used to buy something a lot better.

Regular 5200FX is a horrible card. Get a 8500/9100 unless you can afford the Ti4200.

A lot of it depends on where you are going to buy your card too. I know that locally around here, you cannot buy a Radeon 8500 anymore, only a Radeon 9000, or 9100 which are both at or more than 100 dollars. You cannot find a TI4200 locally for under $140. Now if you have the ability to go online and buy whatcha want, and dont mind shopping around then by all means, save another $20 and get a TI4200 at www.newegg.com for $120.00, that is really one of the best buys on the net right now. Or, of you cant save up another $20 then get the Radeon 8500LE for $80 at www.newegg.com

I think u have an Athlon 1.33 not 1.13. Thats the XP 1500.

As far as Vid cards go....... your system is very mediocre so I dont think u need to go top of the line for a video card. What u have now is old.

Order from pricewatch.com and get the cheapest GF 4200 u can find for about 100. For less money and less speed get the ATI 8500 for about 80 bucks.

Regarding Direct X 9 compliance..... I dont think there will be any direct x 9 games till later and a direct X 8 card will run these games fine just missing a few new visual features. Your present card is a direct X 7 card BTW. A direct X 8 vs 7 card will show more features like the grain of wood in a door for example. They both work.

Judging my the speed of your CPU I would guess that u have DDR 266 ram AKA PC2100. Best to DEFINITLY check your motherboard manual or the motherboard manufacturer. It's possible u have PC 133 old fashioned ram. Download this which will tell you about your ram and alot more. D/L the shareware version.

Assuming u have DDR type ram, get DDR (333) and it will run with the ram u have. Get whatever is on sale for 35 bucks for 256mb.

Yes it will ...but its generally the same price as 266 and you can use it in the future when u get a ddr 333 MB.

I run a 9000Pro on my Duron 1.3, and it's a great card, and only cost me about $80us If I remember correctly. a 8500/9100 would probably be good, choice for your system, or even a 9000 if you want to go a little cheaper (Not sure how much cheaper they are though)

need a video card

Well the card I got was the asus ti4200 64mb geforce 4 and paid a little more than 100 bucks for it but it was well worth 117 is what i gave at newegg.com

Id say a gainward ti200 from newegg.com i think they are like $77 ill get you a link if your pretty intrested, and if your lookin to pay 100 youll have 23 left after that so you can get a crystal orb or my favorite from newegg the vantec iceberg cooling kit

creepy: where can i get that?

i was thinking about the xfx gf4 ti4200 128mb for $119 the one that says HOT!
