AS/400s are used extensively in places that need BIG databases, like Hospitals. Scoring an admin job for one is pretty lucrative, but it's kinda hard to get around how clunky and archaic the OS is.
AS/400 are used in alot of industries. We have two in the small office I work in. The OS is actually very well planned out once you learn the basics you can figure out what a command should be without looking it up.
IBM now calls them the iSeries and they can run Unix and Lunix.
My moms job is to offer support for the OS-AS/400 systems and i can tell you one thing they arent old at all. They are clunky Oses but they are very good for what they do
