cpu wont work at 2800

i have an amd at7max-3 board with a amd athlon 2800 processor 512 ddr400 350 watt power supply and an msi 4200ti video card. my problem is that when i set the cpu speed at 2700 the monitor wont come on but when i set it at 2600 plus it will work just fine tried updating the bios tried a diffrent power supply tried a diffrent type of ram but will not work any suggestions

You have to set everything at default. Please do that (including RAM)

ihave tried it i have tried both things i guess im gonna have to go to the 2800 and try that one

2800+ is the PR rating, if ure trying for 2800mhz then thats the reason, a 2800+ is like 2.2ghz isnt it?

hmm i think this can be multipiller problem! , XP 2800+ CPU is rated 13.5x166mhz. As well try set 13.5x100mhz when rig boot go with fsb more to 166mhz. Maybe its 5bit multipiller problem of mobo! quz 2600+ is 12.5x and more than 12.5x are 5bits multipillers.

Actually it does depend on the CPU, a 2800+ can either be a "Barton" 2.08GHz or a "Thoroughbred" 2.25GHz. set it to either of these speeds and you'll see how ur PC works.
2800+ isn't 2800MHz!!!

I don't really think that they are too confusing tho. Yeah the xx00 number might make people think that the CPU's supposed to work at xx00MHz, but when you usually buy a chip most places say what actual MHz speed the CPU works at and the xx00+ must stand for something, not MHz, as if it was MHz it would just say so.

Barton 2500+ settings 11.0 x 167fsb for 1.83GHz
Barton 2800+ settings 12.5 x 167fsb for 2.08GHz
Barton 3000+ settings 13.0 x 167fsb for 2.17GHz

For a person who isn't familiar with AMD's PR rating, I can understand some of the confusion, but a little research can clear up any misconceptions.
