hey people it time i turn to u guys for some help i need to build a full computer everything but the monitor forsome guy @ work budget is $350 will u refurbed parts if needed any help would be apreciated min specs are 1.2 ghz cdrw 256ram sd or ddr decent video like something that will play cs 1.5 20gig hdd dont need any extra cooling like extra fans dont need and modded stuff would like a very plain looking case

$350.00...hmmmm

I am not trying to advertise, but since i get most of my stuff at Newegg and spend hours browsing there, I'll put in my 2 cents. I'd get it all there so that you dont end up paying multiple shipping charges from multiple stores, that would put a big hurt on the little budget.

case w/ 300w PSU, $40
KT266a MoBo with onboard AC97sound,10/100 $60
Radeon 7000 OEM 64MB DDR $40
Athlon XP 1800+ $50
Speeze HSF $10
256MB PC2700 $40
WesternDigital 40GB 7200RPM 8MB cache HDD $69
Lite-On CD/RW $45
Floppy drive, rounded cables $20
Black PS/2 keyboard/basic mouse combo $12

Thats $386, figure 25 bucks more for shipping if you order it all at once. You could probably drop $30 to $50 bucks from that by finding things in their refurbished items section. look for the 'Free Fedex Saver Shipping' line when youre checking out the products. It makes a big difference when on a tight budget. of course you still have to get the operating system. WINXP home OEM is another 90 bucks. I've tried Mandrake Linux 9.1, It's free if you have the time and ability. stable too. But I'm not a gamer, and thats what this box is for, right? or you can buy the cd's for $20 bucks or so from any number of online sites. Just make sure that the hardware you get is at least 'known to work' with it, you can check the hardware compatibility at www.mandrakelinux.com

Hope that helps and good luck.

I would say go with the 1700+... I think its about 6-7 bucks cheaper than the 1800+, so there we go. :)

Also, you could bump the fsb up to 166 with the ram too. Pretty fast. :)

thnk im gonna go with that setup but with the intergrated gf4 mobo and a duron stick that will cut out having to buy a hsk and is 20 bucks cheaper than the 1800+

These guys are all 'on the money' with the suggestions. after a few more posts you'll probably be able to build it for $350, shipping and OS included. I did just see a Soyo K7V for $39 in the refurbished section, free shipping. No onboard video though.

For $41: EVGA GeForce2 MX400 64MB DDR 4X AGP RETAIL..add that to the Soyo board, you wont be using the cpu and ram resources that you would with an onboard graphics chip. that equals better gameplay, and its also free shipping..and still about 10 bucks cheaper. If your going for the Duron, you dont need the NForce2 Mobo. Also go with PC2100 and save another 4-5 bucks.

Floppy Drive - Personally, I wouldn't spend 20 bucks on a floppy drive. You can get one as low as around $8 at http://www.svc.com I am sure there are tons of places that offer them that cheap or better, but I rarely ever use the thing.

CD-RW Drive - They also have the 52-24-52 Lite on drive on sale here for 42.99
http://www.directron.com/ltr52246s.html
NIce drive, by the way, I have one at work and at home.

Video Card - Unless this guy is planning on upgrading, overclocking, or pretty much everything we talk about in here. I would say that in integrated video and sound card in the motherboard is the way to go on a budget pc.

Everything else looks in line, I am building a system for my brother, but his spending limit is 500. Luckily, he already has the HD, Floppy, and the CD/RW.

Here is his, still choosing a case with 40 bucks to spare.

If you are purchasing the Abit NF7-S, then it would be best to drop the sound card. The integrated sound on the NF7-S is equivalent to about an Audigy, so IMO, buying another sound card (apart from an Audigy 2 or another higher end sound card) is unnecessary.

Ah, nice catch! Thanks for pointing that out, I must have been asleep at the wheel there. ;)

as for cd burner if you live near a BestBuy they have a new deal for that 52x24x52 burner for 9.95 after mfr rebates. its decent burner and includes nero express (only downside) but it works fine. my bro got one a week or two ago.

like $49.95-40.00$ MIR

that would save you quite a bit maybe allow for little more RAM or faster proc or something
