Im thinking its just the board dont support it...And I was hoping the chip is backwards compatable...but Im not sure...and I do this everyday at work:(

Its the Abit IT7 max2 ver 2.0
the CPU is the P4 2.8 800FSB

but it only shows as 1.4

already flashed bios.

So upgrade the board...or do I got a bum chip??

I dont own an Intel but it would seem that the FSB is set wrongly either through your mobo bios or through jumper/switches on your mobo.

you need to set your fsb to 200 mhz instead of default 100.

100fsb x 14 = 1400mhz
200fsb x 14 = 2800mhz (correct speed)

your board is a late enough revision it should be able to hit 200fsb without event. if you get stuck around 180-190 you might think about getting an IS7 or similar springdale board.

nada

Just tried that...bumbed it to 200fsb and set it to 14x
locked the pci bus at 33 and still nothing

set it to 100 and 28x at boot it still shows 1.4

I think the board dont support the 800fsb cpu
I just had a 2.4 in it and it was fine with that...
So its most likely a support issue....maybe I'll try the 2.8 400fsb cpu

no! don't go down in chip. upgrade the board. IS7 is 99-110 bucks. i have one and it works great. :)

and yes you can't adjust the multi on intel chips. i'm surprised that your chip didn't work though after changing to 200fsb. thats odd.

sounds like a bad chip or mo board. . . . but something is definitely wrong
