MB will be a abit ic7 with intel 875 chipset. I will probably get a 800 mhz P4 2.8C (2nd choice is P4 2.4C).

I'm going to put 1G of ram in. Have narrowed down to 3 choices: Corsair XMS Extreme (2-3-3-6 T1 for $209), OCZ Enhanced Latency Premium (2-2-3-5 1T for $246) or Mushkin Level 2 (2-2-2 $288).

With 2.8C, database shows oc of 3.2 - 3.4. Aiming for that range, 3.2 will have 228 fsb. 3.4 will have 242 fsb. 5:4 divider will obviously not be do able (3.2 would have 182 fsb and 3.4 194 fsb) It will be either 1:1 or async.

With 2.4C, database shows oc of 3.0 - 3.2. Aiming for that range, 3.0 will have 250 fsb. 3.2 will have 266 fsb. 5:4 divider will have 3.0 fsb of 200 and 3.2 fsb of 213.

Probably going with 2.8C (price is really negligable). So looking at fsb of 228 - 242 (or 200 with async).

Questions and advise needed:

Can any of the 3 ram choices run 1:1 at 228-242?

Even if I have to go async, would the latency of those choices give actual real performance differences?

Would I just be better off going with the lower cost ram? (the money saved would go into other parts).

Thanks for the insight.

Are the sticks you have listed PC4000?

I am going to guess they are 3500 since Mushkin Level 2 only goes to 3500.

And if that is the case, I would have to say to go with the Mushkin. The Mushkin I see running in a lot of rigs, with high fsb and tight timings. Bh-5 at it's best I reckon though, and that is why I would recommend Mushkin Level 2 for the job. :)

Just wondering. :) I have been looking at the PC4000. Because the Corsair PC3200C2 sticks I have are really limiting my OC. :( I can't even hit 210fsb at 1:1.

Yeh my corsair tops at 210 aswell.

Yes the Mushkin might only be 3500, BUT, it will run pretty high fsb, then usuing your 5/4 divider and the tight timings you should come out well. :)

They were pc3200 for $288. It's new egg Mushkin Level 2 pc3500 is $308.

I wasn't thinking of pc3500. I know price is negligible at that point, but is it worth going to?

Thanks

They are pretty much the same thing (Mushkin BL2 PC-3200 and PC-3500).

Go with the Mushkin PC3500, their BH-5 so you can overclock them fairly well.

I've tried the OCZ PC4000 Golds and they arn't nearly as fast as my OCZ PC3500 (BH-5)! Only in synthetic benches will you see the PC4000 edge out the PC3500, but in real world applications, BH5 is better!

Get the Mushkin (if you can still find it........cuz it's all gone). If you can't find any I would go with the OCZ pc3700EL Gold rev 2. The stuff will do 260Mhz 1:1 2.5-3-3-6

mrspec3,

I know they will do 2.5-3-3-6 at 233, which is their spec and I've read that they will go over 250 with a little luck.
But both at the same time?
What voltage do you use for that?

In the Andantech(and they don't even test for stability) review they reported 260 with 3-4-3-8 @ 2.85V.
