1394 connection

ok, this may sound really stupid question, but i was just messing around on my pc when i went into network connections. i use my LAN to connect to a uni high speed network, so i have to turn LAN on/off in there. i never realised though, next to it is something called a 1394 net adapter thats always turned off. what is this? do i want it on or off? could it be something to do with my dial up modem? thanx 4 any help.

1394 is the IEEE standard of firewire.

firewire can be used to network by default, unlike it's cousin usb.
