Aluminum Heatsink Lapping?

Is it ok to lap an aluminum heatsink. I just got the vga silencer for my 9500pro and it has a lot of grooves on the contact block. Is it supposed to have that many. I never have felt ones as rough as this, but I have never bought a hs for a video card either. Thanks for any help.

yes mine has many grooves too, for a vga card it hardly matters, with mine my vga card stays same temp as my case...

Cool, thanks guys. I just didnt know if lapping was only for copper hs. I just got done putting it on my 9500pro. I didnt do any lapping though.
