Hi guys. I was wondering how big of a hard disk i should put in my cousin's computer. He says he's going to record his music or something through programs so I was just wondering how much space he should need. I know for sure at least over 40gb but which size would most likely be best for a DJ? Thanks.

Even in wav format, there's no way you can fill a 120 gig drive. If in MP3 format, 80 is overkill. About 10,000 songs can fit in 40GB.

Yeah Jot is right, but it also depends if this is a second or primary HD. If he is a real hardcore dj, then he will have a ton of music software, both creation and what not. So hd space would fill up fast.

but then again that depends on quality. I have 10,000 songs that are taking up just over 100GB. Is he using this for storage or just recording? for recording or just playing around 40-80 should be good. if this is something he is going to use for all his musak, go for a 250, the prices aren't that bad. Oh get him a copy of traktor dj studio 2.5, he will love you forever or like you as a friend forever depending on your situation ;)

Oh man get the biggest hard drive you can you will so not regret it.

Wav format is 14 megs a minute(or is it 12?) Figure if he records a two hour live set, that's about two gigs. I know from personal experience a lot of the time you just don't FEEL like converting wav to mp3. Wav is a lot more flexible to edit. Figure he keeps 5 live sets on(not a lot) now he's at ten gigs.

Windows is two gigs or so, plus the other stuff he'll have on for recreation purposes(unless this is solely for djing, I doubt it) Reason files are bulky, so are Acid files, Soundforge isn't exactly 'small' either man.
I'd personally grab a 300gb SATA drive for $220 or whatever it is.
